Alongside the move: favorite categories, an expected income line that shows what is left after your monthly targets, bank sync for loan balances, and a Redbark partnership that brings Australian and New Zealand banks to bring-your-own sync with 30% off.

🐕 Redbark: Australian and NZ banks, 30% off
New partner for bring-your-own sync. Redbark speaks SimpleFIN natively and connects Australian banks through Open Banking, New Zealand banks through Akahu, and US banks through Plaid. Paste its setup token into Zerosum's "Your own provider" option and sync runs with the same review, matching and duplicate protection as every other connection.

⭐ Favorite categories
New: star the categories you use most. A star in the category picker, the row's right-click menu or the category details panel marks it as a favorite, just like favorite payees and accounts.
Favorites lead the picker in every transaction editor, and a pinned Favorites group sits at the top of the budget table with its own totals. Categories stay in their real groups too, so nothing else moves. Turn the group off under View in the budget options if you only want the picker shortcut.
💰 Expected income against your targets
New: tell Zerosum what you expect to earn each month. The Monthly goals card in Month Overview shows Expected income, minus your monthly targets, with a coverage bar and what is left after targets. A shortfall note appears when targets add up to more than you bring in.
Set once, applies every month. Edit it inline on desktop or with the numpad on mobile.
🏦 Bank sync for loans
New: connect a bank to a loan account. Plaid, Lunch Flow and SimpleFIN connections can attach to a Zerosum loan account and keep its bank balance current for Reconcile, while Zerosum keeps managing the opening balance, payments, interest and terms. Labeled Balance only on the Bank Sync page.
New: Plaid mortgages and student loans. Link them to a Zerosum loan account for a synced balance, or to a tracking account to see the lender's transactions in your register.

The biggest release since the summer. Gift subscriptions are here, a new Hide amounts mode keeps your numbers private on a shared screen, three new looks join a richer dark mode, and the register got noticeably faster.
🎁 Gift a year of Zerosum
New: gift subscriptions. Give someone 12 months of Basic ($30), Plus ($50) or Pro ($75) from the website. Pick the delivery date, time and time zone, and the recipient gets a code by email when you chose. If they already subscribe, the gift waits its turn and starts when their current plan ends.
🙈 Hide your amounts
New: Hide amounts. One switch in the sidebar (and in Settings) masks every figure across budgets, accounts, transactions, the calendar, loans and analytics. Everything still works underneath, so you can share your screen or budget on the train without showing the numbers.

🎨 Three new looks and a richer dark mode
New: Slate, Tide and Moss. A cool gray, a sea blue and a sage look, each with its own light and dark mode, alongside Midnight, Lavender, Rosewater, Paper and Ink.
Dark mode got depth. Every dark theme now has a clearer step between the sidebar, the page and its cards, and the base dark and Paper dark carry real color instead of flat gray.
The picker shows you the real thing. Each theme's dot now previews its background and accent for the mode you are in.

New: change the account while editing. Move a transaction to another account right from the editor, on desktop and mobile, instead of going through Move.
New: notes render as Markdown. Bold, links, lists and code, up to 2000 characters.
Clear a category anywhere. Every entry surface, split rows included, lets you remove a category, even one a payee filled in for you.
Edit payee rules in place. Fix a typo in an auto-categorize or transfer rule without deleting and recreating it.

Savings rate leads with the trailing 12 months. One bonus month no longer swings the chart; the caption says which months are in, and the per-month view is still there.
Income Ratio targets can be "at most." Keep Fun under 20% and the green and red finally point the right way.
Loan what-if shows what an extra payment buys. Interest saved and months cut, compared with your current plan.
Weekly and biweekly goals say what they fund. "Budget $50 by the 19th" and "Budget $300 for the rest of the month" are now separate, clearly labeled choices. Open-ended savings goals also show real progress in Combined view instead of a full bar.

New: categories are optional. Save a transaction without a category and it just works — imported transactions approve without one too. Anything uncategorized gathers in a Needs Category row at the top of your budget, and the review banner counts what's left to sort.
The math stays honest while you decide. Uncategorized card spending counts as card debt, and categorizing it later moves exactly the money that categorizing up front would have.

🖼️ Give accounts a face
New: custom account images. Upload a photo or logo (PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF) and it identifies the account everywhere — pickers, register, search, calendar, analytics, and mobile. Images are private to your budget, with photo metadata stripped.

New: "pay off balance by date" goals. On a credit card payment category, pick a payoff month and Zerosum calculates how much to budget each month to get there, re-planning as the balance moves. (This one came straight from your feature requests. Thank you!)

New: disconnected accounts are visible and fixable. An account your provider stops returning now shows on the Bank Sync page with reconnect instructions, and the sidebar badge got tiers: red means act now, yellow means reconnect soon.
Transfers show both sides right away. When an import matches a transfer rule, the other account's side appears immediately — balances are right from the first moment, on both accounts.

Year over Year compares matching months. Mid-year, 2026 is compared against January–July of 2025 — not the full year — so the change percentage finally means something.
Cash Flow respects your account selection. Transfers between selected accounts stay internal; transfers leaving the selection count once. Balance adjustments now show up too, clearly labeled.

Snap it with your phone or drop in a file on desktop, and it stays with the transaction — ready for tax season, warranty claims, or splitting the bill later. Alongside it, payees stop being mandatory and every amount field learns to do math.
📸 Receipts, right on the transaction
New: snap or attach a photo. Every transaction has a camera button in the register — click it, pick or take a photo, and it saves on the spot, no editor needed. Rows with a receipt show a small thumbnail: hover for a bigger preview, click to view it full size, replace it, or remove it.
New: on your phone too. Tap a transaction and choose Add receipt for the native camera or photo library — or manage the photo from the transaction editor's Receipt row.
Private by design. Photos are compressed on your device and location data (GPS) is stripped before upload. Only members of your budget can see them, through links that expire on their own.
Not your thing? Hide the whole column with the Receipts toggle in view options, right next to Tags.
👤 Payees are now optional
Just leave it empty. A transaction no longer needs a payee — skip the field and it saves, showing "No payee" in the register. Clearing a payee you set by mistake finally works too.
Reviews unblocked. Imported transactions approve without a payee now; the only thing that still holds one back is a missing category. The "needs a payee" banner is gone.

New: a real two-column table. Every row shows Budgeted next to Available, with group headers doubling as column headers. Numbers align down to the pixel, and far more categories fit on screen. Goal bars and status text stay — View options can hide them for maximum density.
New: tap Budgeted to edit it. A numpad drawer opens primed with the current amount — type to replace it, or use + − × ÷ ("$50 − $10", done). While you type, it previews what Available will become. Quick actions inside jump to Move money, Details, or a one-tap Cover / Fund goal / Budget upcoming.

Search lives one tap away with suggestions you can tap, swiping a transaction clears or deletes it, and a floating + Transaction button is always within thumb's reach. Alongside it, fixing overspending becomes a single decision, Ready to Budget can be set aside for next month, quick date ranges land in the filters, and a lot more.
📱 The register on your phone
New: search, one tap away. The magnifying glass in the toolbar opens a full-screen Search sheet: type, and matching categories, tags, accounts, payees, amounts, and dates appear as rows you tap to apply. Your active search shows as a bar under the toolbar; tap it to edit, or its ✕ to clear.
New: swipe actions. Swipe a transaction right to reveal Clear or Unclear, keep going past halfway to apply it in one motion. Swipe left to delete. On a transaction in review, the same swipes become Approve and Reject.
New: a floating + Transaction button on every register, replacing the cramped toolbar button. Adding from an account's own page keeps the transaction on that account.
New: "Show uncleared transactions". When a register has uncleared transactions, a prompt above the list tells you how many and filters straight to them on tap.
New: choose whether a transaction saves its location. Eligible new transactions show a small location action next to the payee, so nearby payee suggestions only learn the places you want them to.

🔍 Filters
New: quick date ranges. The date filter starts with one-tap chips: This month, Last month, Last 3 months, This year, Last year, All dates. A saved preset keeps the range itself, not the dates it covered, so a preset saved with This month always shows the current month.
Select all respects your search. Searching inside a category, account, payee, or tag picker and hitting Select all now selects the shown results, not everything.
🧮 Budget
New: covering overspending is one decision. Tap an overspent category's badge and just pick where the money comes from: no amount field, no direction toggle. The button says exactly what will happen, like "Cover $250.00" or "Covers $125.00 of $250.00". Fixing a negative Ready to Budget works the same way, and the credit card payment panel now offers Cover overspent categories right where it explains the problem.
New: set Ready to Budget aside for next month. Money you want to keep out of this month's budget can now be deferred straight from the Ready to Budget card, joining the existing For Next Month category on transactions. One editor on desktop and mobile, with full undo.
Open-ended goals get a Budget button. A goal with a target but no deadline now offers a one-tap Budget action for the remaining gap, and stays out of automatic goal funding, since it has no monthly ask to fund.
Moving money suggests sane amounts. The move dialog no longer proposes more than the source category actually has.

🎨 Colors & Appearance
New: pick any color for a category, group, or tag. The color picker keeps the 22 presets and adds a custom section with a full picker and a hex field, so a category can be exactly the shade you want. If a color would be hard to see in light or dark mode, a quiet hint says so without stopping you. On a phone, creating and editing a category now opens as a bottom sheet.

🧮 Budget
New: cover overspending from a future month. The cover flow gains a Cover from month picker listing future months that hold budgeted money. Borrow September's Dining to fix August's Dining, or pull from any other future category, and the amount is capped at what that month actually has budgeted. One undo puts both months back.
Only categories with money to give show up. When you cover overspending, the source list used to include every category, including empty and overspent ones, which just moved the problem somewhere else. It now lists the categories that actually have money available, plus Ready to Budget.
New: see the transactions behind your scheduled totals. The month overview card and the category side panel told you $1,230 was leaving in 12 transactions but never which twelve. Both now list them, and tapping one opens it. The list always matches the number in the badge above it, and the category card's date reads "Next on" rather than implying it's the only one.
New: two keyboard shortcuts. ⌘/Ctrl + ↓ / ↑ expands or collapses every category group at once, and Shift+S snoozes or unsnoozes goals on whatever you have selected, multi-select included. Both are listed in the
?shortcuts overlay.New: collapse your groups while reordering them. Manage budget layout and Manage accounts get Collapse all / Expand all and a chevron per group, and picking up a group folds everything to its header so you're dragging a title bar past title bars.

🧾 Transactions & Register
New: transfers and card payments remember the account you pay from. Card payments used to default to the first account in the list, usually cash, rather than the account you actually pay the card from. Each account now remembers the accounts you last moved money from, and picking "Payment: Chase CC", a transfer, or a loan payment fills the source in for you. Manage payees → the account gets a Transfer source account card where you can leave it on Recent, pin a Fixed account, or turn it off, and your remembered accounts appear in the picker's "Last used" group. It works from your first session: we read your existing transfers to seed it.
For Next Month, everywhere you categorize. It was missing from right-click quick categorize, the mobile actions sheet, and bulk categorize even when it applied. It's offered wherever it's valid now: on inflows, from last month onward, and on $0 placeholder rows (a recurring bill you fill in later can carry the category before you know the amount). Rows it can't apply to are skipped with the usual notice instead of failing the whole batch.
A split whose bank amount differs no longer blocks approval. When the bank's amount doesn't match the split you built, every line you wrote survives untouched and the exact difference is added as one Uncategorized line for you to place. Your per-line tags, notes, and payees keep their identity, and the amount waits in Ready to Budget as "Uncategorized activity" until you categorize it. Approving these no longer needs "a balanced split".

📈 Analytics
"Exclude current month" is escapable. Turning it on could empty a view, and the only control that turns it off lived inside the chart that had just disappeared, so the setting was stuck on with no way back. The toggle now sits in the filter bar above the chart, and an emptied view offers a one-tap Include current month.
Income vs Expense sorts by name. Rows were ordered by their total across the whole range, a column usually scrolled off screen, so rows showing nothing but dashes sat above rows showing thousands, and the order reshuffled every month. It's alphabetical now, with internal transfers below the payees.
Chart tooltips stay on screen. A tooltip on a narrow chart flipped left and slid under the sidebar. Tooltips are now kept inside the page, and long category, payee, and group names no longer stretch them across the screen.
Drill-downs handle long lists. Clicking into a chart with thousands of transactions no longer bogs down.
💼 Accounts & Loans
New: create a loan before it's disbursed. A loan can start at a zero balance, so you can set up a newly approved loan and transfer the proceeds in when they arrive.
New: loans with no minimum payment. Creating a loan no longer insists on a minimum of at least $0.01. With no minimum set, the Minimum tile reads "None", the Balance Forecast drops its "minimum only" comparison instead of comparing against nothing, the What-If simulator hides the column, and nothing renders as "--".
🔐 Signing In
New: Sign in with Apple. Apple joins Google and password sign-in on the login form and in Settings → Connected accounts. On iPhone both Apple and Google open the native sheet rather than a browser page. Unlinking Apple properly revokes it with Apple, and deleting your account does too.

This release is about getting in and getting started. You can now sign in with a password, not just a one-time code or Google, and change your account email securely when you need to. New to Zerosum? One click now builds a fully worked sample budget so you can see how everything fits together before committing your own numbers. Alongside that, your budgeting history gains a Money Moves view, undo reaches back twice as far, and a long run of fixes sharpens analytics, charts, loans, bank logos, and the budget table.
🔐 Signing In & Security
New: sign in with a password. Password sign-in is now the default way in, alongside Google and the email code you've always been able to use. Sign-up, sign-in, and forgot-password each get their own page, new accounts still verify your email first and then set a password, and forgotten passwords have a proper reset flow. Every password is checked against known data breaches, so you can't pick one that's already been leaked.
New: change your email securely. You can now update your account email from Settings, with a verification step to confirm the change is really you. If you've connected a bank through Lunch Flow, Zerosum asks you to disconnect it first and walks you through reconnecting.
Two-factor is now tied to your password. Setting up and managing two-factor authentication now uses your account password, replacing the older passwordless setup.

New: start from a sample budget. From the empty state or Manage Budgets, one click builds a complete six-month sample budget, real categories, goals, and transactions, so you can explore how Zerosum works before entering your own numbers. It's clearly badged as a sample and easy to dismiss when you're ready for the real thing.

↩️ Undo & Redo
New: see your money moves. The History panel gains a Money Moves view, a running record of every budgeting change from the last 90 days: what you budgeted, removed, moved, or auto-budgeted. Auto-budget runs expand to show exactly which categories changed and by how much.
Undo reaches back further. Undo and redo now remember your last 100 changes, up from 50.
🧮 Budget & Polish
The budget table flexes to your numbers. Columns now size to the widest amount actually in the month and to each row's name, so typical budgets fit without horizontal scrolling, seven-figure balances get the room they need, and your larger-text setting is respected throughout.
Budget it all in one move. Assigning from Ready to Budget now prefills the full available amount in the card popover and mobile drawer, so "put it all here" is a single confirmation, with partial amounts still a keystroke away.
Tidier money-change toasts. The little confirmations that appear when you move money no longer stack up over the entry area on mobile: a new one replaces the last, you can tap to dismiss, and they clear faster on touch.
A cleaner sidebar and a refreshed logo. The sidebar footer now shows just your name (your email is still one click away in the menu), and the Zerosum logo across the app and browser tab moves to its tile lockup.
